Launched product analytics without a compliance waiver
Kept 100% of event data inside the EU region
Cut analyst request backlog by 70%
“Compliance said we couldn't move user data around casually. Vireo's region pinning and edge hashing made privacy a configuration choice instead of a project.”
Fathom's data governance rules required that customer identifiers never leave the EU and that analytics avoid raw personal data. Their previous vendor couldn't guarantee either, so product decisions were made without reliable product data.
Fathom pointed Vireo at the EU region, enabled edge hashing for emails and identifiers, and kept raw values client-side. Product analytics came online in a weekend, and the compliance review passed without a single exemption request.
How Fathom shipped analytics through compliance
Every fintech team has the same meeting: the product org wants data, the security org says no. Fathom resolved it by making the tool itself the compliance story instead of the exception.
The configuration
Three settings did the heavy lifting: data region set to EU, PII hashing enabled at the edge, and raw value capture left off by default. The security review read like a checklist of what they’d already asked for.
The team that appeared
With a compliant pipeline in place, the product team didn’t need a data engineer to answer questions. Funnels for loan application flow, activation for new lenders, and region-by-region conversion all came online the same week. The analyst request backlog — historically a two-week wait — became self-service.
The standard
Fathom’s takeaway: privacy didn’t cost them insight. It cost them an afternoon of configuration, and it gave them a story that customers and auditors both appreciate. That’s the trade worth making.
