Cut average delay detection from 22 hours to under 2 minutes

Raised on-time handoffs by 14% in the first quarter

Gave dispatch one shared source of truth for the whole network

“We stopped guessing which routes were slow and started watching them. Vireo turned a weekly logistics review into a live picture of every truck on the network.”
Challenge

Dispatch teams were making decisions from a report generated the previous night. A delayed crossing or a reroute showed up in the data a full day late — after the decision had already been made.

Solution

Harborline streamed trip, gate, and handoff events into Vireo, then built live trip funnels and per-route dashboards that dispatch watches on a wall screen. Delays now surface within seconds of the event.

How Harborline runs on a live picture

Dispatch is a job where “right now” is the entire job description. Harborline’s previous stack answered questions the next morning — which meant every overnight reroute was decided without the data that could have informed it.

The setup

The change was smaller than it sounds. Harborline’s existing telemetry already produced events; they just weren’t being watched in real time. Wiring those events into Vireo took an afternoon, and the first live trip funnel was up before the dispatch shift ended.

The habit

Dispatch starts each shift against the live network view, not a printed report. When a funnel step — say, gate-to-dock handoff — dips below its baseline, the alert fires in the operations channel with the affected trips attached. The team investigates the sessions, not the theories.

The result

The metrics that changed were the ones Harborline had been trying to move for years: on-time handoffs, gate dwell time, and empty-mile ratio. Each one now has an owner, a live chart, and a number that everyone on the floor trusts.
